What are SRV records?

Back to dns

An SRV record allows you to specify the type of service a particular host provides. Also, the SRV record allows you to specify a priority and protocol type.

For example: _http._tcp.jedomein.com 1 1 80 www.jedomein.nl.

When an application asks the DNS who is handling http traffic for the domain jedomein.co.uk it replies that it is the server behind www.jedomein.nl on port 80.

Here is an example of an SRV record
