To register, transfer and update a .it domain name, there are specific requirements and procedures that must be followed. Here are the main requirements for each process:


Domain registration (.it)

Nameservers:

Requires two or more nameservers or a nameserver group properly configured.

Eligibility criteria:

Can be registered by adults with citizenship, residence, or commercial establishment in the countries of the European Economic Area (EEA), in the State of Vatican City, in the Republic of San Marino, in the Swiss Confederation, and in the United Kingdom.

Handle details:

For companies: Business registration number, VAT number.

For individuals: Passport or ID number, or Social Security number (tax code).

Registrant and admin contact:

Must be the same.

State/Province:

For entities located in Italy, the registry strictly checks the 2-letter province code in the handle.

Confirmation email:

The email sent to the registrant must be confirmed within 14 days.

The "Social Security Number" field must be filled with the tax code (16 alphanumeric values with no spaces) and must be validated through Italian tax verification.

Full Name in Codice Fiscal Data:

Enter the full first name and last name as listed in the Codice Fiscale data. A mismatch may result in registration failure.

MX record and DNS configuration:

An MX record must be present, and the use of two or more DNS with the same IP is not allowed.

AutoRenew Period:

There is an auto-renew period of 15 days immediately after the domain name expires.

Verification of Contact Information:

Errors in contact information, such as incorrect social security numbers or phone numbers, can lead to registration errors.
