What is an EV certificate?

Back to ssl

Introduction
Oxxa offers various certificates where Extended Validation certificates are ideally suited for encrypting/encrypting important data. Moreover, an EV certificate exudes trust, partly due to the validation and the name of your company which is visible in the certificate.

WHOIS data
When applying for such an EV certificate as the True Business EV, your identity is verified. This starts with the WHOIS data of the domain. These must match the data you provide, here it is important that these data also match the Chamber of Commerce extract. This excerpt will also have to be provided at the request of the certificate issuer. In the case of individuals, a copy of the identity document is sufficient.

Application approval
When the request is placed by us, you will receive a confirmation of the request at the e-mail address of the domain name holder or at a predetermined address such as postmaster@, admin@, administrator@ etc. The request will have to be approved by verifying the link in this mail and entering the code mentioned in the mail.

Agreement with Certificate Authority (CA)
It is also possible that you will receive an agreement from the Certificate Authority(CA) which will have to be signed by you (the domain name holder). Afterwards this document should be returned to the publisher.

Control of the Chamber of Commerce
The Certificate Authority checks the data in the extract. When the company name differs from the WHOIS data of the domain the WHOIS data needs to be updated by the domain name holder.

Professional opinion letter
Because of the high insurance amount offered by the CA, sometimes (when there is still some doubt) the professional opinion letter is requested. A lawyer needs to confirm the identity of the domain name holder. The CA can contact the lawyer to verify the identity.

The above is a summary of the validation options, it is not always necessary to go through all the validation methods. Moreover, you will be called at the phone number from the Chamber of Commerce or at the phone number in the WHOIS of the domain in question where your company data will be checked.

All of Oxxa's certificates are similar in terms of encryption. The differences are in the validation, where with an EV certificate the identity of the domain owner must be 100% certain.
