As a Belgian domain name holder, can I also verify my .BE online?

Back to domains

Since the beginning of March 2022, private domain name holders from Belgium will be able to verify their data online. It will no longer be necessary for them to transmit identification documents via e-mail. The verification will take place digitally and automatically.

Roadmap to verify
DNS Belgium, the registry behind .BE, has ensured that you can carry out the process digitally. Via email, a Web page and a verification method. The steps are as follows:

  • After registration, you will receive an email
  • In the mail you click on the button 'Verify your data'
  • You get to the verification page
  • The domain name you have registered is listed
  • Click on 'Start verification
  • Check your details
  • Are the details incorrect? Then you can have it changed by your webhoster and/or registrar
  • Are the details correct? Then click on 'Go to verification
  • Choose your identification method and click on 'Continue'
  • If you cannot use any methods, choose the manual procedure
  • After the online verification you return to the DNS Belgium website
  • Here is the result of the verification
  • The domain name becomes active after a maximum of 1.5 hours

The process can also be seen in DNS Belgium's video.

What if the holder information is incomplete or incorrect?
In this case, the registration is temporarily redirected to the nameservers of DNS Belgium. Your domain name is registered but not yet active. The URL of your domain name points to a landing page of DNS Belgium that contains information on how to verify.

Here is an example of the landing page.

Why is this change to .BE relevant to you?
.BE is popular in the Netherlands. The domain name extension is in the top 4 most registered extensions together with .NL, .COM and .EU. Chances are you have a .BE domain name. And even though nothing will change for Dutch domain name holders now, online verification is expected to apply to all new domain name holders by the end of 2022.
