Automated Renewal Reminder emails

Back to domains

Introduction:
We regularly receive questions from customers about Automated Renewal Reminder emails.
For example: What are these emails, why are they being sent, can they be turned off, or can you customize the content of these emails?
So below is some information about these emails.

Why this email?
As a registrar, we are required by ICANN rules to notify when a domain name expiration date is approaching.

See: https://www.theregistrarcompany.com/pdf/Expired%20Registration%20Recovery%20Policy.pdf

The email is sent to the holder (registrant) of the domain name, and is notified 2 times (per year), namely 30 days before the expiration/renewal date and 7 days before the expiration/renewal date.

The most important sentence in the renewal mails is: The renewal of your domain name will be executed (if applicable) according to the terms and conditions of (reseller company name). If you are not sure if the domain will be automatically renewed, please contact (reseller name) for more information regarding the renewal of your domain name.

This line actually indicates that the reseller manages the renewal of the domain name, i.e., according to the reseller's terms and conditions.
Because there is talk of an expiration date while the domain name has not yet been renewed with us, this can lead to questions from the domain name holder. However, the reseller himself decides whether the domain name is renewed or not, based on the conditions of the reseller (e.g. based on payment of the invoice). For example, if the invoice is paid, you can indicate that there is nothing wrong and the domain will be renewed.

Can you adjust the content?
Unfortunately this is not possible.
The mail is sent as globally / generally as possible, and we unfortunately cannot put a control on it that takes into account the autorenew on/off function.
Also because you can extend the domain name or change the autorenew until the last moment, with the result that the content of the mail is no longer correct.
Therefore, this is the reason why our message is very global but does refer to the reseller information if there is a reseller profile associated with the domain in question.

It is advisable to set up a reseller profile on the domain names if this is not already the case, so that at least in the mails there is a reference to your terms and conditions.

When a reseller profile is set up, the mail will look like this:

This an automatic message regarding the status of your domain name.

The domain name below will reach its expiration date in 30 days on %EXpirationDATE%

The renewal of your domain name will be executed (if applicable) according to the terms and conditions of (reseller company name). If you are unsure if the domain will be automatically renewed, please contact (reseller company name) for more information regarding the renewal of your domain name.
